I’ve submitted several captions to the New Yorker’s caption contest in the past, but none of them have ever been picked as a finalist, so you can imagine my surprise when I got a call from them last week. I’m not sure if it’s within the rules to solicit votes, so let me just point you to the site & you can vote for which ever caption is your favorite this week.
EDIT: Turns out, I won. You can see the caption, here. Maybe one day I’ll get an actual cartoon in there…
OK, here’s the deal. This year (and don’t act like you didn’t see this coming) the official update schedule for the site will be as follows: there is no update schedule. I’m going to post cartoons when I can for a while & hopefully I’ll get back to at least three-a-week in a month or so, but at this point I can’t make any promises.
Sorry for any inconvenience this might cause you.

There’s one word which usually spells doom for a webcomic, & that word is “hiatus.” I’d hoped to make it thru the end of the year before taking a break, but some extenuating circumstances have forced me to scale things back & I just want to let everyone know I’m gonna take a break from the site for a while. However, this is more of a modified hiatus. I plan on updating once-a-week for November & December and then pick up where I left off next year.
Looking back, I haven’t missed a single scheduled update since I returned from my trip to China in November of ‘05, & I’m pretty proud of that fact. For the most part, I was able to work far enough ahead that I could take a week or two off from time-to-time, but I just won’t have that luxury over the next two months (more on why that is later).
