Rube Goldberg
I’m sure everyone’s familiar with Rube Goldberg devices (I think the most well known is probably from the “Mouse Trap” game) which were based on his cartoons & illustrations of outlandishly complicated machines which performed a simple task. I think there have been all kinds of crazy Rube Goldberg alarm clock designs over the years, but his actual alarm clock was probably pretty simple.

so the alarm goes off and the lampshade falls down to stifle it?

Alright, enough is enough.
The comics are alright. Maybe even a little better than Brevity.
But please, please stop with the explanations. They literally ruin the comic for me. You can talk about other things, or link to the explanation - but I don’t want to see it. I suppose you could even try posting yesterday’s explanation when you post a new comic.
Remember, people who need the explanations are not reading your comic.

I don’t know if the depiction is historically accurate, but Rube Goldberg looks a lot like my boss, who’s actually quite like Goldberg in a lot of ways now that I think about it.
I don’t mind the explanations. I see it more as an insight into the mind of the artist. But what do I know.

But he’s never talking about the creative progress- he’s talking about the joke.

I’d never heard of Rube Goldberg, so I found it very imformative! Also, I do of course understand 98% of the jokes, so I’m not going to not read it because of the rare one that I don’t immediately ‘get’.

I’m with Chris. I enjoy reading the comments and I do get the jokes. What is the big deal?

I say you get rid of the explanation and the comic and just stick with the comments.
