(with a lowercase s) is asking somebody if a third, separate group of people speak German.

What you thought would be “Spricht ihr Deutsch?”

Sprichst du Deutsch is the informal mode, if you were talking to a close friend.

And the way it was written is the polite form, which would be used in basically any situation that you didn’t know whether they spoke german (you probably know whether your friend speaks it =P)

When addressing just one person, the correct structure is “Sprichst du Deutsch?”
